Apple touts major App Store milestone: 25 billion downloads

Less than four years after its July 2008 launch, Apple’s App Store has another jaw-dropping statistic for its resume: 25 billion total downloads. At last count, Apple had sold more than 316 million iOS devices, which means roughly 79 apps have been downloaded for each iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch sold by the company. Google’s Android Market went online just three months later and topped 11 billion downloads in January. Google has sold more than 250 million Android devices over the life of its mobile OS, or 44 apps per device.
