Google: 250 million Android devices, 11 billion apps downloaded from Android Market
In today’s earnings call, Google announced that there are currently about 250 million Android devices in use, and that they are activating new devices at a rate of 700,000 per day. Interestingly, that’s no different than the figure Andy Rubin touted last month, but it’s 50 million more than last year’s figure.
Google also says that roughly 11 billion apps have been downloaded from their Android Market. To put that in perspective, Apple’s latest figures indicate its own App Store moved about 18 billion apps, or roughly 60 percent more than Android. But Apple releases its earnings next week, so we could be in for some interesting numbers.
