How to Monitor And Protect Your Online Reputation

November 5, 2020

If you are like most people, then you likely do a Google search before you decide to do business with someone. The information that is online about you can have a positive or negative impact on you or your business. That is why it is important for you to protect your online reputation.

Do a Google Search

You can find out a lot about your online reputation by doing a Google search. It is a good idea for you to do a Google search once a month. If you notice that there is something that damages your reputation, then you will need to get in touch with the website. You can typically do this by using the website’s contact page.

If you struggle to get the information removed, then you can create new content. New content can rank higher in the search engines. You can upload new videos on YouTube. You can also share content on your Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn profile.

Handle Negative Reviews the Right Way

Negative reviews don’t necessarily have to ruin your reputation. However, you have to make sure that you handle them appropriately. You will need to respond quickly. You should try to get in contact with the customer directly. Move the conversation offline if possible. Proactively addressing negative reviews shows that you care about the customer and making things right.

Set Up A Google Alert

If you set up Google alerts, then you can get a notification every time that something is posted about your name. All you have to do is go to Google alerts and follow all of the instructions. You can set up an alert for your full name or business name.

Use People Search

There are websites like whitepages.com and pipl.com that may have your personal information on them. If your birth date, address and phone number come up, then you will need to request for it to be removed.

Think Twice Before You Post Something

Social media can make or break your reputation. Everything that you post online can potentially stay there forever. Even if you manage to delete it, there is still a possibility that someone can screenshot it.

You do not want to post on social media when you are angry. You also want to avoid posting anything about your customers, employees or business partners. Additionally, you should make sure that everything you post is spelled correctly and is grammatically correct.

Use Review Generation Services

You can improve your business’s reputation by using review generation services. You will be able to get more reviews on Yelp, Google and Facebook. You will also be able to grow your business.

Avoid Letting People Tag You in Compromising Photos

The tag feature has ruined many people’s reputations. If someone tags you in a compromising photo, then you should remove it as soon as possible. You will also need to review your privacy settings in order to avoid letting people share your personal information.

Know When to Fight Back

People are entitled to free speech. However, they are not entitled to post things that break the law. They are also not allowed to attack your brand unfairly or report false information about you.

Get Professional Help If You Need It

There may be times when you need to get professional help. For example, if someone is making threats against you and your company, then it is time for you to call the police. You may also want to get a lawyer involved if someone is posting false information that can harm your reputation.
