Why Animation Can Work Better Than Live Action Video For Corporate Purposes

March 16, 2018

There are lots of times when video is used by businesses, from training for staff through to sales presentations and online advertising. With it so easy to make and share videos these days, more companies are taking this approach than ever before, whether it is a small business using a DIY approach to making a promotional video for a new product, or a major corporation hiring a video production company to make health and safety videos for their global workforce.

However, when deciding on what type of video to make, a lot of companies don’t consider using animation as opposed toliveaction video. This is a shame because animation can actually be easier to commission than you might expect and can even lead to a more effective result in a lot of circumstances. Thanks to companies like Spiel, who specialise in custom whiteboard animations and other professional animated videos for corporate purposes, businesses can now consider using this approach rather than filming themselves or using actors. But, why is this sometimes so much better?

Animation Can Be Less Distracting

Unless you have the budget of Game of Thrones, chances are your videos aren’t going to be amazingly scripted or acted, and this can make the end result distracting. We have all seen examples of staff training videos that are so bad they’re good, but if you are trying to say something important, you really don’t want your audience pausing to snigger at the cheesy acting.

You Can Do More With The Screen Time

Even if your video doesn’t need to contain any acting, for example, it is just you explaining something, it is generally better to give people something else to look at while they listen. Using animations, you can have lively infographics or demonstrations of what you are talking about taking place on-screen, which lets you hold the viewer’s attention better than if they are just seeing someone speaking to the camera.

It Can Be Easily Reused For Different Audiences

If your business is global, it is far easier to change the sound on an animated video to a new language rather than to dub a live action video or film the same scenes with people speaking in different languages. It is also easier to change branding and other elements if the video is to be used for multiple purposes. This can make a big difference if you are making an advertising video and want to maximise the markets where it can be shown.

It Is Easier To Update

Live action video may need to be fully re-filmed if something changes, and can also begin to look and sound dated very easily as new trends arise. With an animation, it is much easier to simply change the soundtrack or text parts to add updated information or update certain elements that have fallen out of fashion without having to make a whole new video.

As you can see, animation can be very powerful, so it is well worth considering whether animation might be a better approach for any videos you are planning to make!
